About Balltelligence
Balltelligence is a free sports guessing game. Every day there's a mystery player in each of four leagues, the NBA, NFL, NHL and MLB, and you get 8 guesses to name them. After each guess, clue tiles show how close you are. Legacy mode does the same for retired greats, from the 1920s to today.
Who makes it
Balltelligence is made by three friends.
- Kyle Slate built it: the game, the website and the backend. Kyle also runs and hosts the servers that keep the site online.
- One friend came up with the idea: a daily game that tests how well you really know the players in your league.
- Another friend came up with the name Balltelligence.
Both friends beta tested every mode and sent a steady stream of feedback, and a lot of the rules come from them. NBA positions that share a letter count as a match because a G-F guess for an F answer felt like it should be green. Free Play lets you choose how deep into the roster the answers go because nobody wanted to guess a backup offensive lineman. Legacy clues never repeat what the card already shows because a clue that only restated an award count was no help.
How the game is put together
- Rosters: every player on a current NBA, NFL, NHL and MLB roster can be guessed. Only stars can be the Daily answer, so the Daily stays fair for casual fans.
- Legacy: about 230 hand-picked legends per sport, plus thousands more retired players you can guess.
- Clues: we write the Legacy clues and player write-ups in our own words.
- Data: facts such as teams, numbers and dates come from public sources. They are listed, with their licences, on the Credits page.
Balltelligence runs in any browser at balltelligence.com and keeps working offline once it has loaded. On a phone you can add it to your home screen.
Past answers
Every finished Daily gets a page with a write-up of each answer: who the player is, what the clue tiles showed and which guesses came close. See Past answers.
